This hand colored glass slide is an ORIGINAL and it is NOT a reproduction. It was created to be projected onto the movie theatre screen before the film was released to promote the "coming attraction". Some people in the movie collectible world have said, that, glass slides are much rarer than the paper poster memorabilia from the same film and are very rare pieces of film history.
    Format:
    Glass Slide: 3 1/4" x 4"
    Plot Summary:
Famed New York detective Nick Carter arrives incognito at a California airplane factory at the behest of owner Hiram Streeter. Despite seemingly thorough precautions, a gang of saboteurs and shadowy foreign agents are able to smuggle out the secret blueprints for innovative new planes and sabotage prototypes during testing. With the aid of eccentric detective Bartholomew and spunky nurse and female pilot Lou Farnsby, Carter is able to expose the fifth columnists as well as the traitors that are helping them.
    Trivia
    :
Nick Carter, Master Detective, the 1939 Jacques Tourneur aviation airplane crime mystery thriller ("His first thrilling screen appearance!"; based on the popular series of pulp magazines in the 1930s).
The "high speed" aircraft in Nick Carter, Master Detective was a Ryan ST c/n NC17344. Most of the aerial footage was staged in the studio backlots and incorporated into background scenes.
With this speech, Nick Carter derides three of his contemporary movie detectives: Nick Charles, Charlie Chan, and Sherlock Holmes: "Look, I'm not a storybook detective with, uh, a highball glass in one hand (Nick Charles) and, uh, a Chinese proverb (Charlie Chan) in another, nor can I tell you from the ashes of a man's cigar (Sherlock Holmes) that he, uh, had kippered herring for breakfast and hit his grandmother over the head with an ax.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer bought the screen rights to all the 1,100 Nick Carter stories published from the 19th Century through the 1930s. However, all 3 of the films made in the Nick Carter series were based on original stories.
This film received its initial television broadcast in Philadelphia Thursday 28 November 1957 on WFIL (Channel 6), followed by San Francisco 12 November 1958 on KGO (Channel 7); it was eventually aired in New York City 22 June 1960 on WCBS (Channel 2), and in Los Angeles 26 June 1960 on KTTV (Channel 11).
According to MGM records, Nick Carter, Master Detective earned 6,000 in the US and Canada and 0,000 elsewhere, making a loss to the studio of ,000.

    More Info on Walter Pidgeon:
Walter Pidgeon was an actor from the late 1920s silents and early talkies, moving on to great character roles in 1950s movies such as
    Forbidden Planet
through the 1970s with television roles. He was born in 1897, and started making silent movies and appearing on the stage in the mid 1920s, but he had limited success. He had a wonderful speaking voice, but that did not lead to stardom in early sound movies. Finally, in 1937, at the age of 40, MGM put him under contract, but still limited him to supporting roles. His "big break" finally came in 1941 with
    How Green Was My Valley
, and he became one of MGM's top stars of the early 1940s (no doubt helped by so many other male stars being away at war). He stayed with MGM for the remainder of his career. Some of his movies include: Forbidden Planet, Madame Curie (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Mrs. Miniver (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Advise and Consent, The Bad and the Beautiful, Man Hunt,
    Command Decision
and Funny Girl! He passed away in 1984 at the age of 87.

. Sadly, Johnson sustained brain damage in an incident in 1948. While her injuries were attributed to a fallen hair dryer, she had bruises that indicated she had been physically assaulted. She was no longer able to act, and passed away in 1965 at the age of 52.
