This hand colored glass slide is an ORIGINAL and it is NOT a reproduction. It was created to be projected onto the movie theatre screen before the film was released to promote the "coming attraction". Some people in the movie collectible world have said, that, glass slides are much rarer than the paper poster memorabilia from the same film and are very rare pieces of film history.
    Format:
    Glass Slide: 3 1/4" x 4"
    Plot Summary:
The Man on the Eiffel Tower, the 1949, directed by  Burgess Meredith U.S./French Paris France crime film noir ("From the Novel 'A Battle of Nerves' by Georges Simenon"
In Paris, a down and out medical student Johann Radek (Franchot Tone) is paid by Bill Kirby (Robert Hutton) to murder his wealthy aunt. A knife grinder (Burgess Meredith) is suspected, but Radek keeps taunting the police until they realize that he is the killer. The police and Maigret (Charles Laughton) are led on chases through the streets and over the rooftops of Paris and finally up the girders of the Eiffel Tower.
    Trivia
    :
There were various production problems on this picture, including Charles Laughton's threatening to walk off the picture if the original director, Irving Allen (who was also one of the film's producers) wasn't replaced (star Burgess Meredith eventually replaced him as director). Allen himself was very dissatisfied with the final results. After its initial run, he bought the film rights back from RKO and kept the prints out of circulation for a long time. Many believed that the film was lost, even Meredith. However, it has been released on VHS and DVD and can be relatively easily found at rental stores.
According to her book "My Life in France," Julia Child and her husband Paul Child met Burgess Meredith and Franchot Tone at the restaurant Les Deux Magots, where the two were filming this movie. It would be another 12 years before Julia would begin her rise to fame.
Long thought to be a lost movie, it has been found, restored and recently screened on the UK Talking Pictures TV channel.
In the opening credits, the "City of Paris" is given fifth billing as a star of the film.

    More Info on Charles Laughton:
Charles Laughton was an English actor from the 1920s to the 1960s. He appeared on the stage in England beginning in 1926, and he appeared in a few movie shorts in the 1920s, but his acting career really did not begin until 1931. Some of his movies include: Witness for the Prosecution, Spartacus, Mutiny On The Bounty (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Advise and Consent, The Private Life Of Henry VIII (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), and Island of Lost Souls. He was married for many years to Elsa Lanchester, although he was reportedly gay. He directed a single movie, "Night of the Hunter", and because it was not financially successful, he never directed another, which is a real shame, because that movie is considered a major classic by most critics! Laughton passed away in 1962 at the age of 63.
